Golf club repairs: craftsmanship you feel in your swing

A golf club is a precision instrument. A worn grip, a poorly adjusted lie angle or a shaft that just doesn't match your swing can quietly cost you distance and accuracy. Good clubs rarely need to be thrown away; more often than not they can be repaired and re-tuned to fit you again. At MrGolfbal.nl you can have your golf clubs repaired by Mark Reynolds, a PGA Golf Professional since 1995 and a fixture at The International golf club in Badhoevedorp, close to Amsterdam and Schiphol.

Because Mark both teaches and repairs clubs, he looks beyond the repair itself. He sees how you strike the ball, which tells him exactly what your equipment needs. Repair and fitting flow naturally into one another, so your clubs are not only whole again but genuinely suited to your game. Want to know what's possible for your set? Get in touch and ask about the options.

Regripping your golf clubs

The grip is your only point of contact with the club, and also the part that wears out fastest. A slick, hardened or twisted grip subtly forces you to hold on too tightly and adds tension to your forearms; exactly what you don't want in a smooth swing. Regripping is therefore one of the most valuable and affordable jobs you can have done to a set of clubs.

Mark helps you choose the right size and thickness, because a grip that's too thin or too thick directly affects where your clubface points at impact. Whether you want your whole set regripped or just your most-used irons, it can all be arranged. Fitting new grips is also a good moment to check that the rest of the club is still in top condition. Feel free to ask about the options and the grip choices that suit your game.

Reshafting: a new shaft in your club

The shaft is the engine of your club. If your shaft is cracked, bent, or the stiffness (flex) simply no longer matches your swing speed, reshafting is the answer. When replacing a shaft, Mark looks at more than just swapping a broken part: the right flex, weight and kick point can noticeably improve your ball flight, your distance and your feel.

Shortening or extending shafts falls under this too. If you're taller or shorter than average, or bend more over the ball, the correct club length gives you a better posture and more consistent contact. The wrong length works its way through your entire swing. Not sure whether your shafts still fit you? That's exactly the kind of thing to review with a pro, ideally alongside a golf lesson in which both your swing and your equipment are examined.

Adjusting loft and lie

Two clubs that look identical can play completely differently thanks to small differences in loft and lie. The lie angle determines whether your clubface sits flat on the ground at impact; if the toe or heel is too high, you'll unconsciously pull or push the ball off target. Adjusting loft and lie is one of the most underrated ways to start aiming more accurately.

Mark measures and adjusts loft and lie based on how you actually swing, not on standard values from the factory. That gives your irons consistent distance gaps and closes that odd hole between two clubs. Notice you consistently miss left or right with certain irons? A loft and lie check is often the very first thing you should have done.

Ferrule replacement and swingweight adjustment

It's the details that make the difference. A cracked or missing ferrule, the small black ring between the clubhead and the shaft, not only looks untidy but can eventually let moisture in. Replacing a ferrule is a small, tidy job that makes your clubs look like new again.

More important for your game is the swingweight: the felt balance of your club through the swing. Two clubs with exactly the same total weight can feel completely different if the weight distribution differs. By adjusting the swingweight, all your clubs feel consistent, which brings calm and rhythm to your swing. Especially after new grips, shafts or tape have been fitted, it's wise to have the swingweight checked again.

Golf club fitting: repair and bespoke tuning in one

Repair is about restoring what's broken; fitting is about matching your clubs to who you are as a player. At MrGolfbal.nl the two deliberately overlap. During a custom fitting Mark looks at your height, your posture, your swing speed and your ball contact, and translates that into concrete advice on grips, shafts, length, loft and lie. You'll often get far more out of your existing set than you'd expect, without having to buy a whole new bag of clubs.

As a PGA professional with more than ten professional wins and several titles in the Dutch PGA Order of Merit (2005, 2009 and 2018), Mark knows from experience just how much the right equipment matters. Want to know more about his background and approach? Read his story on the about Mark page.
