Gift tip
Personalised golf balls are an ideal gift for a birthday, anniversary or as a thank you. Choose a model that suits the recipient's standard of play — Mark is always happy to help you decide.
Personalised golf balls suit almost any moment when you want to surprise someone who plays. Think of a birthday with the name and age on it, a retirement with a nod to the new life of free golf, or a wedding where the couple receives their own set. A hole-in-one is a classic too: a ball carrying the date and the course where it happened is a memento a player will cherish for life and proudly show off.
What all these occasions share is that the gift actually gets used rather than disappearing into a drawer. A golfer plays with their balls, sees their name at every tee shot and thinks of the giver — a gift with a long afterlife, then. Want to be sure you choose the right model for the recipient’s level of play? Take a look at the ball selector to weigh soft against premium. You will find more golf-gift ideas under golf balls as a corporate gift.
The space on a golf ball is limited, and that is precisely its charm: personalising is about a few well-chosen elements rather than an overcrowded design. The most popular option is a name or first name, set neatly beneath the brand logo. Prefer something more subtle? Then initials work beautifully — two or three letters that only the golfer recognises and that look timeless. A personal number is not only personal but also practical: you spot your ball instantly on the green among everyone else’s, which avoids confusion on the course.
Alongside a name, initials and number you can also add a short message or congratulation: a date, a nickname or a brief line. Keep it concise, because small lettering on a curved ball needs to stay legible and too much text quickly looks cluttered. In the configurator you type your text and see an immediate impression of the result, so you can play around beforehand with what fits. Unsure about type size or placement? That will in any case come back in the digital proof, more on which below.
A personalised ball is fun, but taste and context matter. For a business relationship or an older golfer you would usually keep it restrained: a name or initials in a single colour looks polished and timeless, and suits almost any occasion. For a friend or family member it can be more playful — a nickname, a joke or a bold colour sit perfectly well with a birthday gift among friends and actually make it personal.
Pay attention to the occasion itself as well. For a retirement or anniversary a dignified line with a year works better than something zany, whereas a stag day positively calls for humour. The tone of the ball can move with the moment. Unsure whether a message goes a touch too far or stays legible? Do run it past Mark via contact; as a PGA professional he has seen countless gift balls come by and is happy to advise on tone and placement. And you always see the final result on the proof first, so you are committed to nothing until you give the go-ahead.
Personalising is not just for the keen single-figure handicapper. It is in fact the occasional golfer who appreciates a ball with their name on it, because playing suddenly feels that bit more special and the ball stands out in the bag. For beginners you choose a forgiving, soft model that gets airborne easily; for advanced players it can be a premium ball that suits their game and speed. That way the gift matches how someone actually plays rather than an assumption.
Beyond the individual golfer, personalising is popular too: a father-and-son set with both sets of initials, a ball for a coach or club mate, or a small run for a group of golf friends heading off on a trip. Want several names on different balls within one order? Discuss that in advance, because it calls for separate proofs per name. Not sure which model suits the recipient? The ball selector points the way, or choose straight away in the configurator and see at once how the name sits on the ball.
To be honest with you: our printing works with a minimum order of 144 golf balls (12 dozen). For a single gift dozen that is a lot, and we would rather tell you that upfront than afterwards, so you are not caught out. For anyone who still wants personalised balls there are clever solutions: order together with golf friends or family, split the 144 balls across several names, or use the stock as a recurring gift through the year for birthdays and holidays.
For larger personal or shared orders the minimum is actually an advantage, because the price per ball falls as the quantity rises. Once you approve the digital proof, allow a delivery time of 5 to 15 working days — bear that in mind if the gift is meant for a specific date, and order in good time.
